Having grown up in Tullahoma, Ms. Herrera's roots are deeply ingrained in the Tullahoma community.
Becoming principal of West Middle School in July of 2018 has been a full circle experience for Ms. Herrera. She attended WMS from 1974-1977, taught technology classes at the original and current WMS from 1994-2006, served as assistant principal for four years between WMS and EMS from 2014-2018, and now has the honor to serve as principal of WMS.
During the years 2006-1014, Ms. Herrera taught at THS as a business and technology teacher. She also served as the Career and Technical Education Director and as an assistant principal. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University. After several years of teaching with TCS, Ms. Herrera attended Tennessee Tech and received a Master's in Instructional Leadership in 2007.
Ms. Herrera views the educational process to be one of collaboration between the students, staff, faculty, parents, school board, director of schools and the community at large. In this new role as principal, Ms. Herrera plans to provide, by collaborating with the WMS teachers, staff, and the extended Tullahoma community, a challenging and innovative experience that supports each students' academic, social and emotional development, and thus prepare them to live with respect for others, with integrity, and with a sustained passion for learning. She hopes that while attending WMS, students will find their gifts and passions for the future and that WMS can help direct their path.
Ms. Herrera's family, both immediate and extended, are a big part of her daily life. She has been blessed with an amazing family that includes a son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and a daughter. During her free time, Ms. Herrera enjoys listening to and seeing live music, meeting new people, traveling, camping, hiking, and enjoying any outdoor activity.
